Admission and Financial Assistance

Each academic year, the Pavia Graduate Program  provides a certain number of  research scholarships (gross amount € 15'343,28 per year: value year 2020) to the students admitted to the PhD Program; for the 2020-2021 Academic Year, 10 positions with 8 scholarships have been attributed. The selection process for  scholarships is competitive, and to qualify applicants must submit:

  • A transcript  providing an official  copy of  their academic record;
  • A letter of recommendation written by faculty who have had direct contact with the applicant;
  • An admission essay in which the applicant discusses the research topic of his or her interest.

These documents must, in the judgement of the admission committee, meet the standards of a solid application story. Upon successful completion of this step, the preparation of the applicants are evaluated in an oral examination by the admission committee. The purpose of the exam is to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of  basic physics and to assess the student's analytic ability, creativity, and potential for successful completion of the Ph.D. program in Physics.  A skype interview can be arranged for  foreign students, (non-resident), wishing to apply to the selection process. Under special circumstances a skype interview can be arranged also for  Italian students.  The interview is conducted by the admission committee.

The application call is usually published mid-May with a deadline after mid-June.
