The “Camillo Golgi” School in Life Science at the University of Pavia encompasses the following highly competitive Ph.D. programs:

- Biochemistry;

- Cell Biology;

- Experimental Surgery and Microsurgery;

- Genetic and Biomolecular Science;

- Internal Medicine and Medical Therapeutics;

- Pathology and Genetics;

- Pharmacological Science;

- Physiology and Neuroscience;

- Psychology;

- Public Health and Education.

These ten Ph.D. programs cover a wide range of interdisciplinary research and training activities in Biological Sciences, Biotecnology and Medicine. The School has a four-fold mission:

1. to strengthen a quality culture in doctoral biomedical research;

2. to increase the social (and economic) value of the doctorate both nationally and internationally from the perspective of potential biomedical researchers as well as from a labour-market point of view;

3. to facilitate the interactions and exchange of doctoral students and faculty members from both the basic science and clinical departments of the University of Pavia with those of other biomedical research centres worldwide;

4. to provide additional support to doctoral students in the course of their biomedical training and research activities.

The School coordinates the Ph.D. programs in order to achieve this mission. All new doctoral “Camillo Golgi” School in Life Science students enrolled in each of the programs will automatically become members of the Doctoral School in Life Sciences.

Research coaching (usually from a personal research supervisor) and specialised courses are provided by the individual Ph.D. program, thus complementing relevant skills training with research-related activities. Moreover, the School promotes the offer of top-level interdisciplinary courses, guest lectures, information sessions, and promotional events to all doctoral students to foster interactions and flow of knowledge between the different and fast-growing fields of modern biomedical sciences.
