The University of Pavia Doctorate College |
Doctorate in Musicology |
Research Areas The Doctorate covers four research areas: - Musical Dramaturgy; - Musical Philology; - Organology and musical iconography; - History of the musical theories.
Objectives The Research Doctorate in Musicology is designed to achieve thorough-going musicological competence backed up by strong interdisciplinary knowledge and skills. This interdisciplinary competence may be construed as being part of, but also falling outside the main sectors covered, such as history of music and musicology, which are multidisciplinary by definition. Specialist sectors, and the time span dedicated to them, vary according to the research areas. The objective includes solid training into research methods, in keeping with the work of the research groups in the Department. All the research areas envisaged will be taught thanks to the presence in the Department of numerous specialist professors and researchers, belonging to the Faculty of Musicology and a professor from University of Bergamo. Various forms of teaching are implemented: seminars held by internal professors, seminars and lectures given by guest professors, study sessions with the participation of internal and external speakers including doctoral students, individual discussions with supervisors and tutors, group discussions on planned theses and theses in progress. Research needs are assisted through individual, occasional and long-term contacts with Italian and foreign research centres and scholars.
