The University of Pavia Doctorate College |
Doctorate in Microelectronics |
The Doctorate program is developed in consortium with the Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori (IUSS) di Pavia.
Research Areas The Doctorate covers the following research areas: - Electronics; - Electronic Measurements; - Electro-magnetic Fields and Waves; - Solid State Physics; - Applied Economy.
Objectives The Research Doctorate in Microelectronics aims at providing a very solid advance formation in the area of integrated electronic systems combining both a rigorous theoretical background with a concrete awareness of real applications. This is enabled also by a deep interaction between research labs and various microelectronics multinational company that have establish themselves in Pavia over the years. The doctorate plans to attract more candidates extending their area of origin both across Italy and across the world following the model of the most relevant international institutions. The structure privileges flexibility and has simple regulations, in order to encourage the access of students with highly diversified backgrounds. This is particularly true as regards admission criteria, periods of stay abroad, interaction with external professors, recognition of training courses and courses offered. Teaching is distributed along the three years of study, with basic topics covered mostly in the first year and more specific ones in the following two. Education activities are based on internal courses and external seminars in addition to courses offered by national Research Doctoral Schools, IUSS and SAFI. Research activities are the basis of the training program. They focus on subjects linked to research areas such as modelling, design and realisation of integrated electronic devices, circuits and systems and are carried out in one of the research laboratories under the supervision of advisors. The research must be consistent with highest international standards as defined by the most prestigious scientific publications. |
