The University of Pavia Doctorate College |
Doctorate in EU Building Engineering and Architecture |
The Doctorate program is developed in consortium with the Universities of Roma “La Sapienza” and L’Aquila.
Research Areas The doctorate covers two major research areas: - Building Architecture; - Architectural and urban composition.
Objectives The Research Doctorate’s goal is to ensure advanced methods of research and acquisition of new knowledge, oriented to planning experimentation in the field of architecture and building with regard to both new realisations and work in the field of building heritage and restoration. Teaching activities will be structured in terms of intensive courses, articulated as lessons and laboratory activities on themes relevant to the research doctorate. Finally, didactic and scientific exchanges operate with the Universidad Central de Chile according to the provisions of the collaboration agreement between the two Universities. The Research Doctorate is designed to ensure highly advanced forms of vocational training so that the scientific and disciplinary skills acquired can be applied to various institutions and bodies and not merely restricted to the traditional context of university research. Training, integrated with appropriate technological skills, is characterised by multidisciplinary approaches and imparting of knowledge about architectural planning. The level of training achieved is such to confer a specialist qualification that enables graduates to operate, in the field of architecture and building, within the context of research and professional practice.
Research Projects The development of the research subjects proposed include contributions from a wide range of disciplines, such as urban planning, construction techniques, restoration, history of art, photogrammetry, energy conversion and plant and equipment, with possibilities of consultino Italian and foreign experts vis-à-vis those aspects which are complementary and necessari for the development of research skills. |

Some of the researches developed focus the following arguments: - Building technology for sustainability; - Hospital design: Innovative criteria for configuration, conformity and distribution of high complexity spaces; - Feasibility studies in building and construction and the role of techniques and technologies in the integral planning; - Territory, infrastructure, landscape; sustainable planning and functional integration; - Planning methods, techniques and tools for the restoration of historical architectures; - Universal design: new approaches for inclusive design strategies.
International Projects The Ph.D. Program is supported by the scientific cooperation with Italian and foreign Institutions and Universities. Moreover, the Doctorate Program promotes the scientific cooperation with foreign Universities with specific agreements for joint supervision of the thesis of Ph.D. students. |
