  • Event - March 2017: The CIRSFID of the University of Bologna organised the first edition of "Stampa 3D in Medicina: regole, tutele, mercato e formazione". The event will take place on March 31st in Bologna - Fondazione Golinellu headquarters. For more information visit the event website (under construction) or the event flyer.

  • News - January 2017: Through the LISA initiative 2016-2018, our CompMech Group has been awarded over 1.700.000 core hours to work on computational fluid dynamics on CINECA's state-of-the-art supercomputer MARCONI. We will be working for the next year on CFD for dozens of patients with thoracic aortic disease within our iCardioCloud project.

  • News - November 2016: We are pleased to announce that the collaboration between Compmech Group, San Martino Clinical Institute of Genova and Cardiatis Company is successfully continuing. Cardiatis, an innovative medical company located in Belgium, is focused on developing a novel platform of endovascular prosthesis dedicated to aneurysm and dissection. Our group member Alice Finotello has been invited by the company as visiting guest last October.

  • Award - September 2016: We are pleased to announce that Dr. Michele Conti is one of the awardees of "ESC Research Grants". The price has been announced during the opening ceremony of the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2016 in Rome. The grant aims at supporting a joint project with Cardio Centro Ticino in Lugano (CH) focusing on the analysis of embolism risk during endovascular repair of aortic valve by in silico and in vitro simulation.

  • New research grant: The project "STEREO3D: New Materials and Technologies for Stereo lithography 3D printing" has been funded by Regione Lombardia and INSTM.

  • News - August 2016: New call online to apply for the Progetto Professionalità “Ivano Becchi”, supported by the Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lombardia. The project provides young researchers with the opportunity to grow professionally.

  • Award - July 2016: During the opening ceremony of the 12th World Congress on Computational Mechanics in Seoul, Korea, Prof. Alessandro Reali has been awarded the 2016 "IACM Fellows Award” or his research, results and publications on the field of Computational Mechanics. The award is given on a biennial basis by the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM) to recognize individuals with a distinguished record of research, accomplishment and publication in areas of Computational Mechanics. Congratulations!

  • Announcement - July 2016: We are pleased to announce that our CompMech Group member Valentina Mercuri has been accepted as a visiting guest scientist in the field of civil engineering to the Oskar von Miller Forum Programme, an independent educational initiative of the Bavarian construction industry. Congratulations!

  • Award - June 2016: We are pleased to announce that Prof. Ferdinando Auricchio has been recently awarded the “Euler Medal” during the opening ceremony of the ECCOMAS Congress 2016 in Crete, for his outstanding and sustained contributions to the area of computational solid and structural mechanics. Congratulations!

  • Award - April 2016: We are pleased to announce that Prof. Alessandro Reali has been recently awarded the “IACM Fellows Award”. The prize giving ceremony will take place on July 25, 2016 in Seoul (Korea). Congratulations!

  • Award - February 2016: We are pleased to announce that our group member Rodrigo Romarowski has been recently awarded the ECCOMAS Scholarship to attend to the ECCOMAS Congress 2016 next June in the island of Crete. During the conference, Rodrigo will present the work "Computational Fluid Dynamics to evaluate saccular aortic disease", a work developed within the CompMech group together with Policlinico San Donato. Congratulations!

  • December 2015: Stratasys, a worldwide leader in professional 3D printers production, will soon publish a case study on our work on 3D printed anatomical models for surgical planning. Moreover, two of our 3D printed models will be in exposition at the Stratasys stand during all the main expositions across USA and Europe, as an example of successful application of 3D printing to the medical field.

  • Award - December 2015: Prof. Auricchio and Prof. Pietrabissa were awarded the San Siro Medal for their project “Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC): development of a new communication platform between radiologists, surgeons and pathologists based on virtual and 3D printed reconstructions of the pancreas and the tumor mass”.   • 6th December 2015: new agreement between the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Pavia, the Distretto Produttivo Meccatronica, and the Consorzio Sustainable Island with the aim to develop new enabling technologies like 3D printing and transfer them into the health care field.   • 7th November 2015: The CompMech Group joined the “Meet the Scientist” project, with the aim of introducing middle and high school teachers and students to different research topics carried on at the University of Pavia. We presented our “3D printing for surgery” crowdfunded project at Salone Teresiano, University of Pavia. Read more about the event.

  • Award: The newly appointed General Assembly and Managing Board have elected the team of new officers of ECCOMAS. The new President is Ekkehard Ramm (University of Stuttgart, Germany), and the Vicepresidents are Pedro Diez (UPC Barcelona, Spain) and Ferdinando Auricchio (University of Pavia, Italy).

  • New research grant: The project "Advanced Fatigue Investigations for Innovative Applications of Shape Memory Alloys" has been funded within the framework of the Galileo Cooperation Program 2013-2014 between Italy and France in conjuction with Prof. Andrei Constantinescu (Laboratoire de Mécanique des Solides - CNRS UMR 7649, Ecole Polytechnique).

  • News: The National Institutes of Health, i.e., the US medical research agency, published the first article containing a list of recommendations for papers dealing with applications of the finite element method to biomedical fields. This represents an important step towards the impact of computational methods in the clinical practice. Click here for further information.

  • Announcement: We are pleased to announce that our Ph.D. program in "Computational Mechanics and Advanced Materials" is involved in an Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Program entitled: "Simulation in Engineering and Entrepreneurship Development - SEED". All the details on the project, and in particular on the open positions are available here.

  • Award: We are pleased to announce that Alessandro Reali is the recipient of a 2010 ERC Starting Grant, considered one of the most prestigious research award from the European Community. More details on the funded project "ISOBIO: Isogeometric Methods for Biomechanics" are available here.

  • Award: We are pleased to announce that Michele Conti's contribution, entitled "Impact of carotid stent cell design on vessel scaffolding: A case study comparing experimental investigation and numerical simulations", has been selected for the Young Researcher Prize session for the 7th European Symposium of Vascular Biomaterials in Strasbourg, France.

  • PRIN-08 kick-off meeting : On Monday, November 15, at the Università La Sapienza di Roma, the PRIN-08 project "Shape memory alloy advanced modeling for industrial and biomedical applications" will be kicked-off with a meeting of its local coordinators and participants.
