New European Joint Doctorate grants:
The ProTechTion project has been funded within the framework of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action - Innovative Training Networks. The project aims at forming a multi-disciplinary research and education network that unites relevant disciplines and stakeholders to develop new computational paradigms, train a generation of ESRs in state-of-the-art SBE technologies and cross-disciplinary skills, and bridge the knowledge transfer gap in multi-disciplinary SBE.
ProTechTion implementation is based on 15 projects, all linked to a EU company. The University of Pavia will coordinate the following: Design and manufacturing of 3Dprinted structural component and Advanced simulation for actuation control of smart microfluidic valves.

Accomplishment:
Last week in the 10th European Symposium of Vascular Biomaterials (ESVB 2017) held in Strasbourg, France, the work of our group "Virtual Endograft Deployment as a Predictor of post-operative TEVAR Outcome" received the
Poster Award by the University of Strasbourg. The poster has been presented by our group member Rodrigo Romarowski in the context of our longstanding and fruitful collaboration with

New Course March-May 2017:
The University of Verona is going to host a course on " Mathematical Modeling for the Circulatory System - Models, Equations, Applications". The course intends to provide some fundamental concept of modeling the circulation and medical image processing. Lectures will be offered by biomedical engineers and clinicians who will provide the "end-user" perspective of numerical modeling for cardiovascular diseases, including new entrepreneurial opportunities coming from cloud computing and computer aided clinical trials. News - January 2017: Through the LISA initiative 2016-2018, our CompMech Group has been awarded over 1.700.000 core hours to work on computational fluid dynamics on CINECA's state-of-the-art supercomputer MARCONI.
We will be working for the next year on CFD for dozens of patients with thoracic aortic disease within our iCardioCloud project.

News - November 2016: We are pleased to announce that the collaboration between Compmech Group, San Martino Clinical Institute of Genova and Cardiatis Company is successfully continuing. Cardiatis, an innovative medical company located in Belgium, is focused on developing a novel platform of endovascular prosthesis dedicated to aneurysm and dissection. Our group member Alice Finotello has been invited by the company as visiting guest last October.

Award - September 2016: We are pleased to announce that Dr. Michele Conti is one of the awardees of "ESC Research Grants". The price has been announced during the opening ceremony of the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2016 in Rome. The grant aims at supporting a joint project with Cardio Centro Ticino in Lugano (CH) focusing on the analysis of embolism risk during endovascular repair of aortic valve by in silico and in vitro simulation.

The award is given on a biennial basis by the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM) to recognize individuals with a distinguished record of research, accomplishment and publication in areas of Computational Mechanics.

December 2015: Stratasys, a worldwide leader in professional 3D printers production, will soon publish a case study on our work on 3D printed anatomical models for surgical planning. Moreover, two of our 3D printed models will be in exposition at the Stratasys stand during all the main expositions across USA and Europe, as an example of successful application of 3D printing to the medical field.

Award - December 2015: Prof. Auricchio and Prof. Pietrabissa were awarded the San Siro Medal for their project “Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC): development of a new communication platform
between radiologists, surgeons and pathologists based on virtual and 3D printed

New research grant: The project "Advanced Fatigue Investigations for Innovative Applications of Shape Memory
Alloys" has been funded within the framework of the Galileo Cooperation Program 2013-2014 between Italy and France in conjuction with Prof. Andrei Constantinescu (Laboratoire de Mécanique des Solides - CNRS UMR 7649, Ecole Polytechnique).
